SVG and MIT Enterprise Forum: The Importance of Enduring Business Relationships

The MIT Enterprise Forum, which is based in Cambridge and has chapters worldwide, is a non-profit networking organization dedicated to the entrepreneur community.  Their mission: “We inform, connect, and coach technology entrepreneurs—enabling them to rapidly transform ideas into world-changing companies. We are a global network of local organizations, inspired by MIT, and open to the world.”  It has been an honor to work with them since 2011, back when they hired us for the first time.  Since then, the MIT Enterprise Forum has come to Skillman Video Group on several occasions when there is work to be done.  This week, they held a panel event for venture capitalists, start-ups, and more.  Once again, they reached out to us to take on the job.

Preparation: Shooting Video at a Live Event

Shooting at a live event comes with a number of challenges.  By nature, live events are transitory and prone to change, offering little control over the proceedings.  In the end, though, we were not there to control.  We were there to capture moments and get the best content out of every shot.  We spoke to the client ahead of time for consultation and planning to best prepare for the day of the shoot.  At the event, there would be no room for error.

Videography: Working a Live Event Is More Than Just Capturing Images

On site at the event, the big thing to watch for was setting up the equipment without getting in the way.  We had to prepare for the shoot without interfering in any way.  We decided to go with two cameras, as we usually do when doing videography at a live event like this.  One that would provide a constant source of footage and be close to the speakers.  The other was more for adjusting and moving about, allowing for “riskier” shots and cutaway footage.

Sure, shooting video at a live event can be tricky, but we were able to handle it expertly and professionally.  The preparation and planning is crucial, leaving us ready to arrive and get the footage we needed.  We worked efficiently and seamlessly, never distracting and using our means to capture the essence of the event at hand.  As one can see, videography is more than just merely capturing images.  That’s why Skillman Video Group is here to help.
